Anthropic launched Claude Corps on June 11, 2026. The program will train 1,000 early-career fellows to use Claude in nonprofit settings, pay them for a year of full-time work, and place them with at least 400 nonprofits across the United States.
The concrete number is the commitment behind it: Anthropic says it is putting an initial $150 million into the program. This is not only a grant-credit announcement. It is a workforce and implementation program, with fellows embedded in host organizations that often lack the staff, tooling, and training time to turn AI demos into durable systems.
The program is built around labor, not just access
Most AI adoption announcements give organizations software, credits, or training. Claude Corps adds a full-time person. Anthropic says fellows will receive intensive training at the start, then five hours of ongoing training each week while they spend the rest of their time with a host nonprofit.
That structure matters because nonprofit AI adoption is usually limited by implementation capacity. A food bank, student-support nonprofit, veterans organization, or public-interest technology group may know where better automation would help. The harder part is turning that need into workflows that staff can trust, maintain, and govern.
Anthropic lists host organizations including Braven, Code the Dream, Heartland Forward, Montgomery County Food Bank, Team Red, White & Blue, REEF, SoundOff, StriveTogether, and YMCA of Greater Charlotte. The use cases in the announcement are practical: data analysis, software development, forecasting, onboarding, survey tooling, and internal operations.
The salary changes the adoption model
Anthropic says fellows will receive an $85,000 salary, benefits, a CodePath mentor, office hours from Anthropic, an expansive Claude token budget, and guidance from a manager at the host organization. That makes the program closer to a paid service year than a loose volunteer network.
The salary is also a signal about what Anthropic thinks implementation costs. If the goal were only to increase Claude usage, credits would be cheaper. By funding people, Anthropic is acknowledging that the bottleneck is often organizational: identifying useful work, integrating with existing systems, training staff, and measuring whether the tools improve the mission.
The first cohort is a test
The first cohort is smaller than the full program. Anthropic says applications are open now and close on July 17 for the first 100 fellows, who begin in October 2026. Applications stay open on a rolling basis for later cohorts beginning in January 2027 and August 2027.
The eligibility bar is broad. Applicants must be over 18, authorized to work in the United States, comfortable working with Claude, and willing to relocate if needed. Anthropic says the program is aimed at people with under two years of full-time work experience, regardless of educational background.
That makes Claude Corps partly an AI-skills pipeline. The host organizations get capacity, but the fellows also leave with a year of applied AI operations experience. If the program works, it gives Anthropic a way to show AI benefits in public-interest settings while training workers who can carry those practices elsewhere.
What to watch
The important next evidence is not whether the first cohort fills. It is whether host organizations can keep using the systems after fellows leave.
Social Finance’s measurement role is the piece to watch. Anthropic says the nonprofit will lead measurement and evaluation and help build a longer-term financial vehicle to scale the program. The useful results would be operational: time saved, services improved, staff adoption, privacy practices, model-failure handling, and whether small organizations can maintain the workflows without a permanent AI specialist.
There is also a policy angle. Anthropic published Claude Corps alongside its broader framework on AI’s effect on work. The company’s read is clear: if frontier AI creates disruption, the builders have a responsibility to invest in the people and organizations absorbing the change.
